Determined to make a difference, nurse and co-founder Monica Herrera built Leora Home Health to prioritize the well-being of our caregivers and ensure they can deliver exceptional, compassionate care.

About me

My name is Mónica—pronounced MOH-nee-kah. I’m a Registered Nurse with over 9 years of clinical and leadership experience, and a passion for redefining patient care. My journey began at Dell Children’s Medical Center (DCMC) in Austin, Texas, where I developed strong leadership skills as a charge nurse and mentor in the neurosciences and epilepsy monitoring unit. There, I led my team through complex cases, coordinated patient care plans, and provided guidance and support to both new and experienced nurses.

After earning my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) in 2020, I took a leap of faith and became a travel nurse at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Leaving home was difficult, and traveling was incredibly demanding, but it allowed me to take on a variety of nursing roles in diverse healthcare settings, collaborate care with world class multidisciplinary teams, and witness the resilience of patients and nurses alike.

While travel nursing gave me the opportunity to grow personally and professionally, it also exposed me to the systemic challenges many nurses face—unsafe patient ratios, burnout, and lack of support. Searching for a better path, I found fulfillment in home healthcare, only to encounter similar issues. That’s when I knew I needed to create real change and build an environment where nurses could thrive while providing high-quality care.

Determined to make a difference, I co-founded Leora Home Health to prioritize the well-being of our caregivers and ensure they can deliver exceptional, compassionate care. I believe that when caregivers are valued and supported, they can truly make a difference in the lives of their patients. My leadership philosophy centers on empowering nurses and creating a positive, nurturing environment where they can truly make a difference in the lives of their patients.

When I’m not in scrubs, you can find me exploring the outdoors or diving into my studies as I pursue a master’s degree in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing. I’m excited to continue growing personally and professionally and to use my expanded expertise to better serve our community’s mental health needs and advocate for meaningful change in healthcare.
